Despite pandemic challenges, we must persevere

In many ways, this is a particularly challenging chapter of the Pandemic.

John Lewis died
It was very sad to wake up and learn that John Lewis, an American hero, died. He was such a source of inspiration and knowledge for people everywhere. I wish he could have lived to see the Trump terror topple, but at least he got to live to see and know President Barack Obama as well as the recent protests for Black Lives Matter. He can certainly rest in peace for he lived life well.

Missing Loved Ones
I'm missing spending time with loved ones as we did in the past--I'm missing the family beach days, evening dinners at restaurants, travel, and exploration. Yes, we're making the best of it, and yes, we are not sick so we are grateful, but it's true that I'm missing life as we know it.

Trump Team Danger, Hate, and Oppression
To wake up each morning and hear more of the Trump team's disgusting, hateful, ignorant words and learn of their self-serving, heinous actions is so discouraging and painful. Why does this hateful team of bigoted criminals continue to be in power in our country. They are causing havoc to lives everywhere and their acts have even resulted in the death of so many good people.

Discouraging Professional Expectations
To hear local and national leaders will to put the lives of teachers in jeopardy in order to provide childcare so American businesses can rake in their outrageous profits for a few wealthy folk at the top strikes at everything I believe in and stand for. I have spent my life devoted to teaching well. Like teachers everywhere, I've taken course after course and spent countless hours honing my ability to teach children well. And now, leaders want to put us in compromising, dangerous situations--they want to risk our lives to keep their stock investments profitable. This is so discouraging, frightening, demonstrating how so many Americans put no value into education. The fact that so many Americans don't value education is evidenced in the ignorant man they chose for President of the United States and the way that so many Americans today are acting against good judgement with regards to the pandemic, safe neighborhoods, environmental protection, quality health care, opportunity for all, fair wages, good working conditions, and environmental protections.

Family Care
Family care is challenged by the pandemic. This pandemic did not have to exist as it does. Had the Trump team taken pandemic warnings seriously, kept the pandemic health team in place, read and responded to intelligent reports, and acted with intelligence and speed, we would not be in this situation. But instead, Trump politicized the virus calling it a hoax as he golfed and held rallies rather than do the work he was elected to do. Now family care for everyone is difficult given the limitations and threats that abound.

We Can't Lose Hope
When we look back in history, we can gain inspiration from people who persevered through tough times. We can continue to look for silver linings as we plan our days and do what we can. We can advocate and stand up for our rights and values, and make choices that support those rights and choices. We can count our blessings and be grateful for what we do have as well as bring joy and serve others in ways possible.
