Pandemic Plans

Listening to the news this morning, an expert explained that we're at the top of the fourth inning of the pandemic, and if we do our best, we should be in good shape in June of 2021. What does this mean for our plans going forward?

Contribute to public safety
Wear masks, wash your hands, socially distance, and stay informed. If we want to see an end to this pain, we all have to help out.

Recreation
We need recreation to stay happy, and fortunately, we can get outside and hike, bike, and explore natural lands with our loved ones--this is healthy in many ways and is a positive way to keep relationships strong.

Healthy Food
We can continue to look for ways to grow and prepare our own foods--safe food routines are vital to healthy living.

Invest in Projects and Preparation You Can Do
There's a lot you can't do during this pandemic, but there's a lot you can do--you can research, create, write, play games, and prepare for future post-pandemic events.

Holidays
This virus is going to impact holidays in substantial ways. We are not going to be able to gather in large groups as we are used to, and we are going to have to think differently. It's probably best to start thinking about how you are going to have happy holiday gatherings in the great outdoors with hiking and outdoor adventure activities. The key is to plan for health and safety as no one wants the holidays to become points of illness or even death.

Pandemic Potential
I keep thinking about how we can find potential in this pandemic crisis. Health is a promise that this pandemic surprisingly holds since we can all remake our routines to spell greater health. Intimacy is another promise since we can deepen the close ties we have with people we share our homes and neighborhoods with. Creativity is one more potential as we can use our creativity to craft holiday gifts, family communication, and care in ways that make people happy during these trying times. And of course, contribution matters--what will we do to contribute to a good society during these times, what can we do to combat the forces that have mismanaged this pandemic and broken society in so many ways--how can we work for betterment. Understand the underpinnings of the life your lead and the possibilities that exist. In pre-pandemic days, most people were involved in a rat race of life, and that created a busyness that left many of us without time or capacity to read the details, study the issues, and get involved in the greater society in meaningful ways--the pandemic gives many of us time to do that, and this is yet, one more potential that exists.

The year ahead won't be like other years--it will be different. The key is to expect these changes, and do what you can to make the best of it. Onward.
