This morning I shared my truth related to a few issues. It felt good to express these sentiments, sentiments about a situation that truly made my life difficult for many years. Now that those years are past, the roots of that oppression are so clear. I am so much happier now and better able to live my life, do my work, and care for my family.
I was in the midst of a corrupt situation--a situation where favoritism, subtle cruelty, and self-serving greed were rampant. Those in favor with the evil doers, received favors, and those of us not in favor, were ridiculed, threatened, and treated poorly.
I could not see the situation fully for what it was, but I knew it wasn't right, and I knew I was experiencing great oppression. I would cry often--I sought answers in multiple directions, and fortunately found allies at home, amongst colleagues, via my union, and with outside counsel too. The evil doers played upon my insecurities, weaknesses, and lack of knowledge/skill to forward their unethical ambition.
During that time, I faced my own weaknesses and challenges, and shored those up. I held to my values, and worked with groups that countered the corruption. That was positive and helped me to get to the place I am at today. I have actually been able to forgive the perpetrators too, but I don't want to see those people do the same to others again--those people do not belong in leadership positions.
It is important to persist when oppression and corruption exist--you must find ways to stick to your values and do the right thing, you must not succumb to the evil or join the evil doers. There are many out there who will help you to stay strong--they will offer you a path to greater strength, improved work, and better living. It is essential to seek those people out and work with them.
None of us are perfect. We all struggle in specific areas of our lives, but most of us, despite the struggle, live with good values and positive direction. We want to do the right thing. We have to find the good in people and help them to strengthen their weak areas and maximize their strengths--we have to be positive agents of growth and change, not the kind of people that take advantage of one another's weaknesses.
Telling your truth frees you to do better work and live good lives--this is a positive path to follow.
