Speak your truth

Social media has changed the international conversation. In times of old, there were a few vehicles for sharing news and ideas and now the opportunity to share news and ideas is virtually limitless. People are speaking their truth on many, many platforms.

With respect to speaking your truth, there is much to consider.

Your truth may resonate with some, but not all
With the international conversation including so many voices, it's unlikely that everyone will agree with your or even want to entertain your truth, but it is likely that some will agree with you and want to converse more about your ideas. I love the fact that I can research almost any question, problem, or idea that comes to mind via a quick search. That search will always lead me to someone who has considered the situation, someone who shines some light and provides direction with regard to my search. This is amazing. I also love the fact that I can share my ideas too--I can contribute to the international conversation. This is awesome too.

Beware of tricksters
As we share our truths via multiple social media platforms, we have to always be aware of tricksters. There are some out there who make it their business to lie, cheat, and take advantage of others online. You have to be careful about what you say and who you trust as many tricksters exist.

Advocate for apt communication protocols and policies
Find ways to advocate for social media platforms to promote real people and honest information. Help to keep social media platforms respectful, truthful, and accurate. Look for ways to promote policies that make these international platforms inclusive, free, available, and accessible.

Decide who you want to be and promote that person online
Promote a truthful version of yourself that puts your best foot forward. Social media is the modern Main Street of society--what you promote via your words and image is who people see and know. Be mindful of the images, words, and video you share as that will follow you your entire life.

I encourage everyone to find ways to speak and share their truth. No of us will have time to entertain everyone's social media share--that's impossible, but what will happen to you is that some people will speak strongly to you. Right now there's a young person from the UK that speaks strong to me everyday--the posts are exactly what I'm looking for, the words and images give me strength. I don't know this person and I haven't even researched the person yet, but at this moment in time the individual's outlook is exactly what I need to be strong and focused. That individual's truth speaks to me and I want to listen. There are others, however, whose words are good, but at this moment, those words do not speak to me--it's not where I am or a response to the questions I'm asking.

Don't worry about who listens and who doesn't, but instead focus on the truths you share. Make sure those truths accurately reflect you as well as a positive direction for those who read what you share. Onward.
