Often we don't really understand that we are being manipulated. Many of us just expect others to be looking out for our best interests--thinking about win-win solutions. Yet, there are some who simply don't care about our welfare, our good lives, or our futures--their focus in on themselves and perhaps, a few others.
In American society, this is clearly an issue as Trump and his heinous family members and cronies elevate their wealth and power via dangerous policies, lies, hate rhetoric, dangerous international liaisons, and poor decision making. Trump puts the average Americans' life in danger daily as he hires cronies and family members rather than the best and brightest to lead important government offices. He gets rid of important environmental regulations that promote healthy environments and protection of our natural resources to appease his wealthy donors and cronies--this puts American lives in danger of the health risks that pollution and lack of natural resources such as clean water cause. He also spends our taxpayer dollars to fraternize and do business with human rights violators across the globe--he kowtows to those wealthy, corrupt folks seemingly to increase his personal wealth and because he is afraid of what they will do to him. Horribly, he is cavalier with American lives and dollars--squandering both because he is too lazy, ignorant, and irresponsible to do his job well by taking intelligence reports seriously and valuing good American lives and hard-earned American tax dollars. He clearly does not care about most Americans, and invests his time and money into his own greedy endeavor and that of a small group of financial backers and family members. He and his backers are terrorists that continually exchange opportunity and good living for most Americans in favor of their own selfish gain and fame. This is criminal.
How do we work against this manipulation?
We have to be informed. We have to know what we believe in, and then we have to work for that.
How do we work against more subtle, local manipulation in our communities and work places.
Again, we have to know what we want, what we value, and be willing to work for that in peaceful, proactive ways with words, time, money, and effort. We have to make sure that our time, money, words, and behavior are not supporting the opposite of what we believe in. We have to make sure that we are not trading favors that work against our overall mission and beliefs. Every act we engage in is a vote for what we believe in, support for what our lives will become. Every decision we make matters.
