We have all dealt with disrespect from time to time. We have all probably been disrespectful too. When someone is disrespectful to you, it hurts. And when someone is repeatedly disrespectful to you, it leaves you with some difficult choices.
How do you deal with disrespect?
First, it is important to analyze the situation and notice what you own and don't own. Are you instigating or playing into the disrespect with your words and actions? Are you mirroring the disrespect? Have you been honest with the person about your needs? Is there an event or issue greater than you and the other persons involved--something that is affecting all of you?
Once you've analyzed the situation, you have to change your behavior where needed. It's critical that you own your part of the disrespect, and after that, it's important to have a game plan about how you will deal with that treatment.
Then, as much as possible, move ahead towards working against disrespect in yourself and by others. This is a positive movement. Onward.
