I'm an everyday person.
I needed to solve a simple banking problem.
I drove to the branch, and they could not help me.
I made several phone calls and typically got the same, very lengthy automated message and menu each time.
I could not reach a person.
Finally, by some miracle, a total of about six hours later, I reached a human being who was able to solve the problem in five minutes. It was a very simple problem, but a problem that could not be solved via online banking or at the branch office.
Too often, too many ordinary people like me are relegated to losing time and money because we live in a society where corporations have too much power.
We are a country of the people by the people, but heinous leaders like Trump and his corrupt band of family members and cronies have weighted society toward corporate power over the power of the people. This leaves people weak while corporate leaders make billions of dollars with little to no responsibility for the power they have.
This is wrong.
Because of corporate power, they can mask this inequity and thus not be held accountable. Some lawmakers like Elizabeth Warren understand this and work against it, but most everyday people don't understand it or don't have the time to deal with it because they are too busy working, taking care of their loved ones, and doing needed chores.
I am really sad about this power imbalance, and I can only imagine how so many people, more oppressed than me, are taken advantage of daily by this corporate structure.
We can do better and we must.
