Hospitality seems like an old fashion word, but it's a word that still holds value in the modern world.
In what ways can you be a hospitable host? What do you do to welcome your guests?
Clean Home
It's always nice to visit a clean, welcoming home. So, to be a good host, you need to prepare the home--keep it simple and clean. Add a few art pieces, flowers, and/or meaningful photos to create warmth too. My mom and dad gave me a beautiful painting by their good friend. Everytime my mom visits, she gets great pleasure from looking at that painting.
Good, Healthy Food and Drinks
Prepare healthy food and drinks--your friends and family members will enjoy that. I always buy a few special items when guests are coming--foods and drinks to make the event special.
Positive Conversation
Keep the conversation upbeat. Be a good listener. Get to know your guests well. Enjoy their company.
Entertainment
If possible, add some entertainment. Sing songs, play a board game or yard game, and possibly even watch a good movie.
The pandemic has challenged our patterns of hospitality. Indoor events have become outdoor events. Shared meals have become individual servings. For many of us, our extended days at home has resulted in better cooking which is a plus.
Hospitality is often overlooked in society, however, now with our movement towards greater automation, we can return to and emphasize our service to one another, and part of this service to one another includes respectful, welcoming, and positive hospitality. We can do this?
