Lost?

When you're lost, you can find your way with some or all of these paths.

The company you keep

Take a vacation from all the company you keep that takes you down or inspires you towards negative thoughts and actions.

Simplify your life

Get rid of all the extraneous items/actions that don't contribute to your life in significant ways.

Help someone else

Nothing rights your attitude and emotions as much as helping someone who needs help. That's one of the best ways to right your life.

Immerse yourself in a positive passion

It's okay to obsess in a positive activity, that's a good way to find your way. For example if you have a favorite game or activity, do it, do it a lot, and get good at it. Often passions lead you to new people, places, and pursuits.

Don't dwell on the low points and bad experiences

The events happened. There will be time later on to reckon with that, first get yourself on a positive path.

Don't lie to yourself

Face the facts of your low points--if you're doing something that doesn't contribute to your life in a positive way, face it and clean up that action.

Get the help you need

There are some big problems that you can't solve on your own. For many big problems, you need outside consult and support--it's worth the time, money, and effort to get that help. A meeting each week with a counselor, a visit to a rehab, or even time away from your normal routine can be a solid investment in finding your way.

We have all been lost one time or another, and for some, losing yourself is a much bigger deal than others. If you know people with addictions, you know that those people suffer losses far greater than most and they typically need outside agencies and supports to get past that addiction. Whatever your losses are, make a priority to find your way--it's worth it.
