The garage clean-up

It may sound silly, but the garage clean-up has been hanging over my head for months. I started planning for this job in the spring, and I finally got to work in the past few weeks. It's a big job.  Why?

Yes, our garage, in part, has become a dumping ground for objects that we don't know what to do with. Also, with that "out of sight, out of mind" mindset, there's a lot of items in that garage that we have not attended to or thought about for a decade--that's a long time. And, deciding what to keep, what to throw out, and where to put everything demands thinking about the past, present, and future.

So far, cleaning the garage, has made me reflect on several of our life habits and activities.

House chores and upkeep

Lots of products in the garage relate to painting, upkeep and fixing areas of the house and yard. We'll continue to do that so all those tools and products need a place in the garage. The good news is that organizing all those items will save money as now we know what we have and don't have to keep buying more.

Sports and adventure

The second most popular category of items in the garage belong in the category of sports and adventure. There's lots of camping gear and sports items including balls, scooters, tennis rackets, jumpropes, sleds, and more. I'm keeping the best of that equipment for family get togethers. Of course, there's the beach equipment too that we use often.

Kitchen gadgets and supplies

There's a few kitchen items stored in the garage too since we buy some of those items in bulk, and there's not enough room in the kitchen for those items.

As with any cleaning job, this work reminds me that it's good to be prudent with what you buy--the truth remains, less things, more time, and I must say in most cases, I value time over things. Onward.
