My family has been working to avoid COVID-19 risk or infection. Mostly we've gathered outside with plenty of space and so far, so good. Yesterday's outing, however, challenged our safety. We gathered at a beach with family members with plenty of space, yet as the day moved on more and more people gathered close to us. In my opinion, it was too close for comfort. We eventually left, but we probably should have left earlier. The day before we went to a beach where there was plenty of space and no risk--that was a better choice.
The COVID-19 risk forces you to be cognizant of your choices and surroundings at all times. You simple can't be as spontaneous or carefree as you might be accustom to being. For the most part, my family has been able to navigate this safely, and now it's time to rethink safety with the fall/winter months ahead.
Flu shot
Several years ago, I got a bad case of the flu. I had not had the flu vaccine that year. It was awful! Now I faithfully get the flu vaccine, and this year I plan to do this during the later weeks in September.
Family Gatherings
I suspect that we'll have to be more careful about family gatherings with regard to keeping numbers small and staying outside as long as we can. Once the cold weather arrives, we'll have to resort to virtual gatherings and shorter, outdoor winter outings more.
We'll simply have to live a more cautious life in the months ahead, months until a safe, effective vaccine is ready. It's worth it to live safey--this is good for the long run.
