Vision Making

 How do you create vision?

Imagine who and where you want to be

Begin with freedom to dream about who you want to be and where you want to be. For me there are persistent images that inform my vision, the images include beautiful lands, families, and healthy, outdoor activity.

Imagine with detail

Once you arrive at the big picture, then start creating the specific details. As specific as you can be, the better chance you'll achieve your vision.

Prioritize

Prioritize the elements of your vision--what's most important, second, third, and so on.

Make a plan: work backwards

Work backwards and make a plan to achieve your vision

Get started

Begin the work. Revisit your vision regularly and revise as needed.

Recently I've been thinking a lot about vision setting and vision work. I watched a group work without vision this summer--that group created a lot of extra work for lots of people. Had they started with a vision first, their work would have been a lot better. I also thought about past visions I successfully worked for and recognized the strength that vision setting brought to that work. I'm in the midst of working on my next big vision now--it's good work, work that propels you forward in positive ways.
