Your long term vision pulls you ahead. Make time to hone that vision regularly. This long term vision gives you the power and determination to stay the good course in life. Where are you headed?
I need that long term vision to help me power through the short term sacrifice and hard work. A simple, silly example is cleaning the garage. It's a dull job, but now that I've finished half of it, I get such great satisfaction everyday. Life is easier without all that clutter, and it takes me one step closer to my vision of a very simple life of less things and more time.
Be deliberate and specific about a loose-tight vision--loose leaving space for serendipity, response, and surprise and tight keeping you close to your overarching goals which may include healthy living, environmental-friendly lifestyles, attaining a professional/educational degree, or supporting family members in positive ways.
As I hone my long term vision today, I'm thinking about the following categories:
Health
The pandemic has awakened all to the need to be cognizant of our healthy habits--the key is to figure out what you need to be as healthy as possible, and weave that into your long term vision.
Happiness
What truly makes you happy. Make a list of your top three or top ten happy activities, places, and/or people, and make sure that you are making time for that.
Contribution
In what ways can you support good living within your community and with the people you care about? How can you share your talents and abilities with others in positive ways.
Inspiration
Inspiration brings us great energy. Where do you get your inspiration? How can you make sure that you have a regular diet of inspiration.
Financial security
How much money do you need to live the life you want? How can you make sure that you make that money? What can you do to meet your financial goals?
People
Who are the people in your life that you want to invest in, be with, and support? How will you specifically and regularly boost those relationships?
Sacrifice
What will you sacrifice to meet your goals for good living?
Routines
What is the best routine for good living today and into the future?
Labor Day marks the start of a new year for many. This is a good time to hone your long term vision in order to strengthen your daily living for the year ahead.
