Last night's Vice Presidential Debate was better than the Presidential Debate, but it was still stressful. Pence politely spewed vitriol made up of Trump praise and frightening ideas and perspectives.
Trump Praise
The way that the self-identified Christian Pence continually kowtows to and props up Donald Trump is sickening. He clearly is the sweet talking liar of the Trump's bully crowd--the snithering, slimy, shifty guy who doesn't have a hair out of place, and sweet talks lies and oppressive ideas so it sounds like he's trustworthy, humble, and on your side. It's frightening and oppressive to witness this man--a man that's so sure of himself, that he has no idea what's really happening. He's convinced himself that he's on the right side of life, and destructively supports and strengthens the Trump team's deadly, lawless, harmful ways. To watch Pence, knowing that he has stood in the way of people's rights, privilege, and opportunity, is terribly stressful.
Broken Record
Pence always seems to say the same thing--it's as if he has a few recorded messages inside that body, messages that he repeates over and over again. Rather than answer the questions asked, it seems like he just presses that prerecorded message whether it responds to the question or not. He's the Trump talking head. I'm tired of those mostly false, misleading statements--statements that he expresses with a pre-recorded voice reminiscent of a horror film.
The Fly
Similar to the way, people are seeing the SCOTUS superspreader White House event as revenge from RBG, it seemed like the moment Pence began to belittle the role that racism plays in our country, John Lewis sent a fly to perch upon Pence's bright-white, freshly-cut and manicured hair. That fly didn't budge while Pence mocked the racial inequality and the need for change. The fly's timing was perfect sending a visual message that Pence's lies were full of ____ as that's why flies are typically attracted to.
Civility and Lies
Pence began the debate with civility speaking welcoming, kind words to Kamala Harris. As always, I hoped he would be truthful. I even hoped he'd take the opportunity to tell the truth about the heinous Trump, but instead he proved himself to be a full-fledged, committed member of Trump's oppressive, self-serving team that bullies, lies, takes advantage, and acts with irresponsibility and contempt for the American people.
As you might imagine, this debate was similarly stressful for me--I continue to be surprised that the Trump team can be as horrible as they are--they waste our time, our money, our lives, our livelihoods, and our potential as a UNITED people, a people with limitless potential for what is right and good.
It is time for change, time to vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to take the helm in the White House. The Trump team has done enough damage.
