This campaign season has been frustrating. For me, it has been especially frustrating since Donald Trump does not represent the country I love and the country I believe in. He's a self-server, me-first showman who could care less about our country's beautiful lands, wonderful people, and amazing potential. Trump only cares about his own power, popularity, pleasure, and pocketbook--that's it, he could care less whether we live or die, and in my estimation, he is the worst President ever to be in the White House--a sitting duck for corruption, greed, and destruction of our good country.
So what to do when living with such a heinous, dangerous, and destructive President in the White House?
Support change
With writing and a few dollars I'm supporting Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and democrats running for senate. I may also make some phone calls. If I don't act for change, I can't expect change.
Listen to the many points of view
I've been listening to many points of view. I find that those who support Trump are me-first people just like him. In general, they are people who show little concern for the greater society including both people and our lands. These are people, who like Trump, are content if their bank accounts are sufficient and their living enjoyable. These are not people who are worried about racial injustice, pollution, unfair working conditions, accessible health care, optimal education and safe communities. Unlike me, these people vote for their own advantage alone and don't believe that a good, strong country is one where everyone thrives. These are survival-of-the-fittest fans who do what's best for themselves alone. This is very troubling to me because I know that when some of us are living with poverty, lack of health care, poor educations, and unsafe communities, we all ultimately suffer. A strong and positive nation depends on the good living and opportunity for all, not just some.
Continually update your efforts and ideas
As I listen to many, I do continually update my focus and efforts. For example, I do think there's a lot we can do to improve health care. I have seen first hand how the ACA (Obamacare) has elevated people's lives--people who had little to no good health care before, have been greatly helped by the ACA. Now, it's time to look for ways to improve that rather than just throw it out as Trump and his self-serving cronies want to do.
I've also seen first hand how same sex marriage has improved lives and contribution. This is good, and should continue.
I know how education elevates lives. I've read story after story about how education has created opportunity and good living for people, and how a lack of education often mires people in less positive lifeways. I believe there is still lots that we can do to improve education across the country and make education more equitable for all people in every USA community.
And, of course, probably more than anything else, I love the United States' beautiful lands and resources--we have a wonderful country with so many awesome natural lands. Trump's will to support some of his wealthy donors who persistently pollute has harmed our country's beauty and needed clean water, air, and soil. He is a quick-fix, short-sighted President who does not look ahead or work to protect the environment for our children or grandchildren. He doesn't even care that he's leaving his own young son and grandchildren a polluted USA--it's all about him in Trump world, and that's dangerous for all of us. I will continue to seek to learn more and do more to protect the environment in the days ahead.
Trump looks back for inspiration, not forward
Trump is backwards thinker who doesn't do his homework. Rather than do the hard work of leadership--work that includes reading intelligence reports, collaborating with best and brightest, walking the streets of the country, and getting to know the diversity of people and lands, he relies on his old-time marketing manipulation strategies including lies, name calling, story telling, theater, hate, divide, and lethargy. Trump spends his time on the show, rather than doing the good work of leading the country. He surrounds himself with people like him who are more interested in their own wallets, opportunity, and fame than the welfare of the country. These people include a great number of crooks and criminals who have resulted in costly prosecutions and imprisonment during the Trump years. As they say, you can judge people by the company they keep, and Trump's company, like him, are criminal--individuals who play the people, cheat, and don't do their share.
I don't know why people support Trump. I don't know why they spend their weekends in car parades, tooting their horns, exclaiming their love of Trump via bullhorns, and like Trump, spewing hate, lies, and disrespect day after day. These people are easily manipulated, self-serving, and short-sighted like Trump, they care only about themselves and few others.
I hope that most Americans will see through Trump's freak show entertainment and recognize that he is not fit to be President of the United States. I hope they'll realize that he truly is a cheater who plays the people for his own gain, and I desperately hope they'll recognize how much time, potential, lives, livelihoods, and good energy he's stolen from our country over the past four years--four years when we could have been working together to truly move our country forward in ways that elevate good living for all.
Voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is the first step to recovery for the United States. The step after that is to get involved in an effort that you believe truly improves life for yourself and others in the United States. Onward.
