Have you worked for a Pence?

I worked for a Pence. She was always carefully dressed, and never said anything that could be described as loud or obnoxious. She, like Pence, was calm and somewhat sweet talking, and also like Pence, confident about her actions, choices, and leadership.

Also like Pence, she simply kowtowed to leadership with her words, and made the job easy for herself. She made it look like she was doing a good job, but truthfully she never did the hard work to truly make positive change. Those on the front lines knew her work was shoddy, insufficient, and never timely or up to date.

If you questioned her, she blamed you. When her work was subpar, she turned the criticism back to those on the front lines. And she continually hired consultants mostly so she wouldn't have to own any work gone wrong--instead she could blame the consultants.

Like Pence, she did what she was told--she did what was comfortable and always looked neat and clean. She never worked to make significant change. She didn't work for growth and development. She was a yes woman whose main goal was to collect her salary, not get in trouble, and live a life of privilege. As for the rest of us, she merely saw us as her peons, and treated us with little respect or concern.

The way that the Pences of the world simply do what props them up instead of collaboratively and inclusively working hard with respect to make better stands in the way of the good change and growth possible. They are dead weights that might maintain the status quo, but they don't do anything that truly enriches life. They don't take risks; they take care of themselves; and when coupled with evil leaders, they become a big part of that problem too.
