I am anticipating a quiet December, but I know that anything can happen during this pandemic time we're in, so I'm keeping a flexible outlook.
It seems that my college-age son will be home more than away this month. A recent COVID-19 scare has alerted our entire family about the threat this virus presents. As for my military son, one never can predict what his reality will be, but we're hoping to see him over Christmas, and my almost-married son is close enough for drive-by's and perhaps a visit if we know that everyone is safe from the viral spread.
In the meantime, I'll focus on decorating the tree, cooking healthy meals, making ornaments, continuing the home jobs I've started, and spending time with my parents once there's no more threat of COVID in our home. Just recently a family member had prolonged and unexpected contact with someone who eventually tested positive for the virus. Fortunately the individual is asymptomatic, yet we want to be cautious so we're staying close to home until we know we're safe.
The theme of a warm and welcoming home seems to be a good one for this pandemic holiday season, and for any season for that matter. More than grand gestures, awesome travel, big gifts, and spirited parties, this is a hunker-down, get-cozy, quiet holiday season filled with homemade foods, game playing, movies, sports games, books, conversation, and crafts, and we'll make the best of it. Onward.
