Grammy's House

In a sense, I'm creating Grammy's house these days. Though I've yet to have grandchildren, I know that's likely to be my next primary role in life, so with that in mind, I'm reorganizing my home to make space fo the future grandchildren. As you can tell I'm looking forward to that chapter when the time is right.

Becoming a mom came quickly. I didn't prepare much for that role, and when I did have my first child, we had a lot of catch up to do to get our home and life ready to nurture that little guy well. I want to be better prepared for the grammy years. In part, I'm motivated by watching my own parents' experiences in that role. My children love their grandparents, and I hope to be a similar loving grandparent.

What do I hope Grammy's house to have.

Signature toys

I've kept the best old toys and games so my future grandchildren can enjoy those.

Best books

I have a collection of favorite picture books ready to read to these future children.

Welcoming places to sleep

We're fixing up the bedrooms so family members will want to visit and stay here

Playful backyard

If we stay in this house, which we may do, we have to make the house-yard intersection more fluid and safe. As it is now, and as it was when my children were young, the in-out flow doesn't lend itself to safe, easy child play. I want to change that.

Easy to clean up

We're getting rid of lots unnecessary items--less things, more time.

Traditions

I want to keep the best of our family's traditions alive including the following.

  • Sunday dinners
  • Holiday decorations and gatherings
  • The Christmas Santa party
  • Summer gathering in a special place
  • City weekends when time and money allow
  • Great movies, music, games, and stories
  • Cooking, making, playing
  • Contribution
So today I'll focus on working for a positive future. Onward.
