As I read many posts related to the Biden/Harris win, I'm thinking about the fact that what we do is a vote for what we believe in and what we hope will continue in life. In constrast, what we don't support, will likely go away.
If we live with discernment, we can use our words, time, money, and energy to support the best of what we can be as a people. That truth, I believe, will differ for each of us. We're not going to agree, but in general, if we live with greater discernment, we'll likely direct our world in better, more humane ways.
What does that mean for my life?
First, this means paying attention to the company I keep online and in real time. Online I have a great number of inspiring, thought-provoking follows and followers. The words, links, and images they share make me think by leading me to beautiful places, wonderful ideas, and positive debate. In many ways, my social media follows are my teachers. I continually learn from them. And, in real time, the people I spend time with are my home team--we support one another in countless ways giving each other strength, support, and good times as needed.
This also means paying attention to where I spend my time, money, and energy. For example, during election week, I found myself channel surfing via the television and the Internet. I was disatisfied with many of the pundits I listened to, and found myself thinking that I have to update my viewing patterns sot that I am listening to and reading a good variety of news sources and steering clear of stations that are more focused on their profits and marketing than the truth.
With regard to the commercial world, I also want to be more attuned to the how the companies I frequent are operated, and what they do for me, the consumer.
Living a discerning life gives us power together over the way the world moves. When we thoughtlessly live our lives, we give away that power, but when we thoughtfully make choices and live our lives, we use our power in positive ways.
