Trump monopolizes on the fact that some have narrow perspectives due to narrow life experiences--many with narrow perspectives have mostly lived in single spaces with little exposure to people of various religions, cultures, races--people who may not be as curious as others about how the great diversity of people in our country live, and people who, perhaps, stay committed to single organizations/groups that also have a narrow perspectives.
One reason I believe Trump is a poor leader is that he has a relatively narrow perspective. Even though he has a lot of privilege and power, he tends to stay in same places all the time. You can find him at The White House or his fancy clubs. When he travels, he gets on and off a plane, but rarely to never, ventures into the neighborhoods and meets the people where they live and work. Trump doesn't know the American people, and he clearly doesn't care about the American people either. His work during the last four years mainly served to prop up the wealth, privilege, power, and pleasure of a wealthy few including himself.
As I watch the Trump rallies, I am reminded of an event I attended once. At the event there was a strong minded women who was cheering for her child. I watched her, singly mindedly, push her way to the ideal seat to see her child compete. Then I watched her cheer with abandon for her child, and not pay much attention to any other team member. Then when her child did not compete as she hoped for, she began crying, raging, and blaming others for her child's performance. The women was singly focused on her child with no regard for the bigger picture of the people around her, the other competitors, the success of the team, or the hard work of the coaches. In general, the women's behavior was short sighted and offensive.
I get it that moms will do all they can to support their children. I'm a mom like that, but when our focus is too narrow like this mom's, Trump himself, and many at Trump rallies, you miss the big picture, and what's right and healthy for all today and in the long run. The truth about this mom's child is that the child is a good competitor who will achieve great success throughout life if he can take each competition as a step to learning more about himself, the team, and success in general. Long term, the ability to be on a team and work together, will likely be the most valuable aspect of this child's competition. It's unlikely he'll be a worldwide competitor in his sport. Also, the mom herself, missed out on the opportunity to get to know the team community, contribute to the greater good, and support the hard working coaches, rather than decry them.
When we miss the big picture, we miss the long term potential and opportunities that exist. In my opinion Trump fans, just like Trump, are missing the big picture. They don't realize that an investment in just work conditions, fair wages, environmental supports, bridging the wage gap, fair taxation, lessening the national debt, and lawful, ethical, honest, respectful leadership mattes and makes our country stronger today and stronger for the long run.
I get that Trump fans love the superhero-personna Trump presents as he speaks with strength, postures on stage, demeans many, and tells grandiose lies that sound like truth. These people love adoring the big guy on stage--they love the camaraderie that comes from working against common enemies with strength. The problem is that they've fallen prey to Trump's dangerous ability to manipulate and trick others--he's spent his whole life strengthening his ability to spew propaganda to get his way. He knows that fast pace lying confuses people, and grand stage appearances with repetition of attractive lies works for him. He's done it for years.
Trump knows that people naturally resist bad news, and that's why it's been so easy to trick many about the devastating pandemic including the pandemic deaths, pandemic illness, and the great loss of livelihoods and the challenging changes in the American lifestyle. He knows people don't typically think about the long run, but instead act for the day, and he plays them with that knowledge. Trump also plays upon people's desire for an enemy to blame for their hard knocks in life, and he has chosen many enemies for them. Sadly, the enemies Trump chooses are generally hard working, good people who may look different than his supporters or have different educations. They are also people who have spent their lives doing good, honest work to help others unlike Trump's years of self-serving, greedy, lawless behavior.
Narrow perspectives for any of us is a danger. Trump has always had a narrow perspective in life and he wills that for his followers too as he knows it is much easier to manipulate those who think and act with a narrow perspective.
Prove Trump wrong. Think/act with a broader perspective--see the entirety of the situation for today and into the future. Choose leaders who will help you to live a great life today and a great life into the future. In this case, that choice is Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
