Americans are playing the waiting game as we await the announcement of the next President of the United States?
What promise can we find in this waiting game?
Observation and Curation
Many political leaders are showing their true colors right now. They are demonstrating how they deal with this waiting game, a game that speaks to the truths of who we are as a nation. How political leaders act at this time gives us a glimspe of how they will act with regard to any challenges that face us, and how seriously they respect the laws, processes, and people in the United States.
Many politicians are acting with intelligence, patience, and strength--they are honoring our voting process and the fact that every vote must count. These worthy politicians and leaders are speaking the truth and respecting the hard work of so many who are counting the votes, managing the process, and communicating the results.
There are other politicians who are revealing their ignorance and disrepect with regard to our country's value of one-person-one-vote. These politicians are using this opportunity to challenge, abuse, and demean our political system and our founding laws and processes in The Unites States Constitution. These politicians' words and actions right now are obstructing the good work possible while they work against our unity and good will as a nation.
So use this time to watch carefully what your political leaders are doing, and make some decisions about who and what you will support as we move forward.
Develop your knowledge and ability to decipher truth over fiction
While the whole country stays focused on this election, it is a good time to develop your knowledge about our country's government, laws, and processes. To understand this well gives you greater voice and capacity moving forward as part of this amazing government for the people by the people. There are also many lies being spread at this time which makes this a good time to develop your ability to focus on true information over lies and fiction.
Many of us are still learning how to research using the many online venues available. We are honing our ability to spot true information versus the"fake news" that is perpetrated. For me, I generally consult a number of sources, and always seek the repetition of information by three trusted sources before I dig deeper. I have come to recognize individuals that typically spread lies more than truth. Sadly, President Trump typically lies and spreads conspiracies. If you research his words, you will find that to be the fact. Some of his cronies like Rubio, Cruz, and Graham are also liars who spend more time spreading bogus information than doing their jobs. These liars obstruct the good work possible in the United States. It is essential that we elect honest officials that do their best to serve the American people rather than simply using lies and propaganda to serve themselves.
So, as you wait, build your skill to determine truth over fiction, understand our government, and curate which leaders are truly invested in what is best for us in truthful, honest, and beneficial ways.
Ideas for the future
To be the best of ourselves, we must continually evolve. To have a strong country, our country must continually evovle. There is always room for improvement. So as we watch the election results roll in, think about what worked well this year and what might work better in the future.
For me, the opportunity to vote early and drop my ballot off at the City Hall ballot box was a great advantage. My husband and I sat down and completed our ballots step-by-step. When we were confused about a question or a candidate, we did a little research and discussed the matter. This was so much better than rushing into the polling booth and voting without the opportunity to discuss the issues/candidates, do some research, and carefully complete the ballots.
Obviously, the differentiation in the ways states counted the ballots has created confusion and angst country-wide. It's important that this is discussed going forward. I think there needs to be greater consistency state-to-state in the future. One idea may be consistent counting processes. Perhaps, after the election, there should be a three-day counting period, and all results are announced at the same time after those three days. Yet, this lengthy process, I believe, may have been better with regard to accuracy since there has been so much oversight by so many people and organizations.
This waiting time gives you time to think about your own political action for the future. You can make time to think about and discuss these questions with others?
- How much money do you want to invest in elections?
- What kinds of candidates do you want to support?
- How can you do your part as an American citizen--where do you want to invest your time and energy?
- What issues matter the most to you? How can you get involved in those issues?
- What do the campaign results' trends say about your country and the important issues? How will those trends affect your future involvement?
