Today is a day of service. I like to serve so I am looking forward to the day. What does this mean?
Readiness
There's a few hours of prep needed for this particular task including cooking (1.5 hours), shopping (1 hour), transportation (1 hour), chores (2 hours). As I actually write down the prep needed, I realize it is more time consuming that I realized.
Meal preparation
I'll use the ingredients on hand to make and package a good meal.
Gift giving
I'll prepare a small, delicious gift for another service provider who has served my family and me with grace over the years.
Timing
Timing is sensitive to this day, so it's important that I get an early start. Last time I served in this capacity, I got off to a late start which muddled the entire effort.
Chores
There's a laundry list of simple chores to complete. Positivity and less talk will help me to complete those chores with care.
Kind talk
There will be lots of opportunity to engage in conversation, and the key to that conversation is kind talk and lots of listening.
COVID safety
There's the added burden of COVID safety (and threats) that I have to be cognizant of by using good hygiene and keeping good distance.
Speed
To provide this service well means I have to slow down. In the past, in similar activities, I've been too fast which has created havoc. As I write the steps down, I realize that in the past, I didn't give the readiness aspect of this service enough time hence my speed throughout the task included too much anxiety-producing rushing.
Closure
There are a number of closure events involved in this task too including the clean-up, leaving directions for activities that follow, and kind good-bye's.
To break down the work you do into each layer helps you to see the complexity of even the most simple tasks. Sometimes what we may see as simple is actually quite complex, and the snags we experience may be due to the fact that we haven't truly analyzed all the steps involved. Onward.
