Best day of the week?

Someone asked, What is your favorite day of the week?, on social media recently. I thought about this, and was surprised to realize that Mondays are my favorite day of the week during my first months of retirement during a pandemic. Why? I like Mondays because on Mondays there is great hope--for me, it is the beginning of a week of opportunity and typically a quiet day to plan the week ahead. Also, at my home, the workweek is a week where everyone is in their specific spaces in our home working and studying, I have a cozy basement space for my projects and planning. I like this space.

As a child, my favorite day of the week was Fridays. On Fridays, teachers were more relaxed and school was more playful. I also looked forward to happy weekend days on Friday. And, as an educator, my favorite days of the week were the weekend days--I loved the days off when I could do whatever I wanted to do. While I enjoyed teaching, I didn't like the tight minute-to-minute schedule of teaching. As an educator I rarely had a minute of peace and quiet to do my work. Instead, my time was always compromised by lots and lots of interruptions. Because of this and other factors, I am an advocate for more reasonable school schedules and numbers for educators--I believe that would set the stage for greater teaching and learning success. As an educator, Mondays were the worst day of the week. The weekends were always busy and I always felt like I needed another day to catch up anad make the transition back to work. Imagine if every Monday was a planning/study day for educators and students, and the actual time-on-task schedule lasted from Tuesday to Friday--that might be better.

Understanding your favorite day of the week says a lot about who you are and what you love. Of course, the pandemic has impacted that choice for all of us since our weekly schedules have changed quite a bit due to pandemic limitations and experiences. What's your favorite day of the week? What does that say about you?
