It's not always easy to do the right thing. Sometimes the tides push against what is right and good, but in the long run, you never regret doing the right thing.
Yet, in some situations, what is right is not always clear. In situations like this, you have to consult the underlying themes of what is right and good.
Love
It is always right to act in loving ways. This letter from Paul to the Corinthians sums up loving acts well.
Kindness
To be honestly kind is always right too. I use the word honest because sometimes people can be dishonestly kind, and that kind of false kindness is actually very hurtful. But to be genuinely kind is always right.
Helpful
To be helpful is right too. To be helpful does not mean projecting your own thoughts and ambition on another, but to genuinely ask, What do you need and how can I help you? And then, doing what is most helpful to another--fulfilling one's needs.
Truthful
Truthful is almost always right. Sometimes it's better to hold your tongue rather than speak the truth, but to speak with lies is not helpful to anyone. Truthful is better, and it's best when you are thoughtful about how and if you communicate truths, especially painful truths.
Patient
Sometimes one may be overzealous with their will to help--they may want to "fix things" in fast and hurried ways, and that abrubt syle may not be helpful or right at all. To be a patient servant to others is better--to listen with care, act with thoughtt, and respond with generosity and care is better.
Compassionate and Empathetic
Everyone meets with rough patches throughout their lives, and we can serve and do right by others if we act with that knowledge in compassionate and empathetic ways. This is always right.
Kindness and care to self
To be able to do right by others, we have to do right by ourselves. That's not always easy, but it's important.
