Goal revision

With the first set of retirement goals complete, it's time for set two to begin. Essentially goal set one included setting the stage for good living at home by playing catch-up with a long list of household organization and clean-up jobs.

Goal set two is all about shoring up the health and safety for myself and family members--how can we be as healthy as possible. What changes can we make to support this effort?

Take charge of your health

As you get older, you simply have to visit the doctor more often. There's all kinds of ways that you can prevent serious illness with regular check-ups, preventative procedures, and good medical professionals. Your medical professionals are essentially your grow-old-well team. My dad has been an excellent example of this--he has worked closely with a large number of dedicated health professionals for years, and his health shows this. He's an active 90-year-old who lives a good quality of life. Of course, some of this is a lucky coincidence, but taking charge of your health is the right thing to do.

Plant based diet

Our family is moving to a more plant-based diet. While we're not going vegetarian 100%, I'd say we're moving in the direction of 90% vegetarian. Exploring lots of plant-based recipes and habits is actually a lot of fun. Some dishes we love, and others we won't repeat. There are all kinds of positive reasons why this is a healthy path to follow--a path that's better for your personal health, financial goals, and the health of the planet too. An overall win-win proposition.

An active life

For starters, we do most of our own home jobs. We rarely hire outside help. This is a good start to an active life. Many in my family have daily healthy activity routines, and this is positive too. In the year ahead, I'll be looking for ways to increase my activity in purposeful, healthy, and entertaining ways.

Good minds

There are all kinds of ways that we can keep our minds strong too with games, reading, theater/shows, social experiences, and more. This is rarely a challenge, and a source of great joy and pleasure.

So overall, the main goal for the months ahead is healthy living for myself and those I love. Onward.
