We took a beautiful seaside hike on Christmas Eve. |

We learned about each other via a ZOOM family trivia game. |
It was a good holiday. The ZOOMs worked--we got to see each other, and via trivia and secret gift givers. Everyone who participated from young to old had a chance to share a few words, tell stories, and spread their cheer.
The hike was beautiful--we chose a spot that we've always wanted to visit. The vistas were wonderful, and the landscape sparked a lot of curiosity. Who lived there before? Was the land donated? How did it become conservation land? I'll investigate soon.
The cooking adventures added creativity to the weekend--it was a challenge to get the timing just right for the main dishes--there were some hits and misses, but overall we enjoyed the fancy holiday meals.

Family chess tournament |
I had not played chess for years. I forgot what a mind bender the game is, but enjoyed the strategy and the chance to spend time one-on-one with famiiy members as we played. Tempers stayed mostly calm as we competed for a family chess champion.
Driving up the coast by Boston from the hike back home provided beautiful holiday scenes from the stately seaside homes to lit-up city neighborhoods to the Boston skyline and back to our suburban sidestreet.
And a movie and a bit of lighthearted Netflix series Kim's Convenience to top off the celebratory weekend. The movie, Mr. Jones, reminded us of the inhumanity that exists when leaders and others forget about the people to prop up their own wealth, ego, and privilege--a sober reminder that there is much work to do to help everyone enjoy opportunity and good living, and a good way to end such a wonderful and intimate weekend and begin to embrace the positive challenges of the new year. Onward.
