The ebbs and flows of the pandemic and an errant President

It's a double whammy as we face an errant President's final days of oppressive actions and the continuation of a raging pandemic. President Trump's lethargy, ignorance, and self-serving aims have taken our country way back. He's leaving the White House with a USA that includes a few rich people making lots of money, and the rest of Americans facing great loss due to a raging pandemic and economic strife. During my life, President Trump has been the worst public leader to date--he's a hateful, selfish, destructive, and dangerous man. He's completing his final days with signature moves by pardoning hateful, dangerous law breakers, spreading the virus, and acting without any support or good will for the incoming Biden administration. Like many, I hope that he is eventually prosecuted for all of his evil acts, and I hope that he and his corrupt cronies pay the price with large fines and jail time.

Sadly as Americans suffer the pandemic limitations and results, we don't have a leader in the White House to help us along, but instead our President is part of the problem. Fortunately there are some stalwart local leaders who are working overtime with one another to do the right thing. In Massachusetts, in general, we have good leadership that is working to do their best--it's not easy.

It's not easy for almost anyone this Christmas. The threat of the pandemic spread as well as sickness has greatly changed life as we know it. Like many, I have to keep recalibrating to stay positive as I miss spending time with loved ones in ways that we typically enjoy at the holidays such as parties, a dinner or two out at a nice restaurant, shopping trips, and arts performances. Instead we've been home, home, home. I love being home, but now that we've mostly been there for close to a year, it is getting a bit old. I, like many, am ready for a return to the more social ways of old.

Yet, I'll stay the course. There's light in the horizon with the new, responsible, experienced, and people-centered Biden administration ready to lead in just a few short weeks. People have started to receive the vaccine which is also promising, and so many of us have used our imaginations to make life as good as possible with special, more intimate events and pursuits.

The Christmas holiday is around the corner--we'll make the best of it, and coach ourselves to stay flexible as we continue to navigate this new terrain. Onward.
