I'm sure I'm not the only one who is discouraged, troubled, and worried about the Trump-led terror at The Capitol and the terror he continues to wage on the American people as he refuses to respond to the American people via a press conference about his part in the matter. Instead he cowers in the White House likely drumming up all kinds of excuses for his lawless, dangerous, deadly behavior.
I am terrorized by a President of the United States who easily wills the death/injury of American citizens, the costly destruction of our public spaces, infidelity to his oath of office, and obstruction of justice as outlined in The United States Constitution.
What will he do next? It is frightening and terrorizing. President Trump is truly a domestic terrorist.
How can we deal with this terror as individuals and as a country--what can we do?
As with any heartwrenching, terrorizing, hateful, or hurtful event, I typically turn to making a plan. I find that positive action counters these disastrous events.
Here's my action plan:
- Know as much as I can about the terror--who perpetrated the acts, what did they do, how did they do it, and what are they still doing to keep the terror going?
- Speak up to public leaders and others--ask them to work for change. Via emails to members of congress, tweets, Facebook posts, blog posts, and conversations with friends and family members, I am calling for the impeachment, loss of benefits, prosecution, conviction, jail time, fines, and possible loss of citizenship for terrorist President Donald Trump. I believe as President of the United States he abused his power by inciting violence and obstruction of justice at The Capitol which injured and killed American citizens, terrorized all those working in and around the Capitol as well as any peaceful, law abiding protestors in the area, obstructed justice and The Constitution of the United States, spread the deadly pandemic virus, created costly vandalism and looting, and demonstrated infidelity to his oath of office in multiple ways.
- I am also speaking up to encourage President-elect Joe Biden to wage a full investigation on all aspects of the insurgence, and to hold all those who had any part in planning, financially supporting, and carrying out this domestic terror event and any other planned terror events in the future.
- I am assessing my own use of words and action in light of these issues, and thinking carefully about who and what I support and work for, and how I demonstrate that support in my daily life.
- I am committing to do what I can to forward positivity and promise in the groups I belong to, and making the time I need to get the good knowledge and skill that will help me to do that work.
The world will always have problems. The world will always have evil, selfish, dangerous people. And the world will always have opportunity to work against the forces of evil for good. I've seen a lot of good in my life, good that came to me because of the hard, courageous, intelligent, and loving work of so many who came before me and lived with and around me. I am fortunate to have reaped the rewards of so many good people's dedicated, humane efforts. We have to do that kind of work, and we have to work against those who will harm us and others in an effort to prop up their own power, pleasure, wealth, and privilege. That is the only way that we can right the direction of our lives and make better for those around us and those who will come after us. We must do this.
