Here is a draft that President Trump can use for his resignation speech.
I am here today to tell you that I am resigning as President of the United States, and I want you to know that I hope that none of you will follow the life I've led. Let me tell you why.
My great grandfather immigrated to the United States to avoid the draft in Germany. I have no trouble with pacifists who do not want to join the service, and I don't even have a problem with someone escaping service if they truly do not believe in war. Better than to escape is to serve one's country in another way as a medic or non violent helper, however I have grown to respect pacifists.
I do not respect my decision to avoid the draft like too many privileged White man with a bogus medical condition because that set me up for crooked endeavor going forward.
My greatgrandfather came to the United States, and made a lot of money with hotels and brothels during the Gold Rush. He wanted to return to Germany after making lots of money, but Germany would not take him back since he avoided military service. My dad, like my great grandfather, was focused on making money. He abused taxpayer money via government grants, in part, to make his fortune--this was his passion and life's work. Sadly, he didn't have much time to nurture me as a child. I was a troublemaker who got kicked out of school at an early age. Some say that I was left without my mom, who was sick when I was very young for some time and that may have been a factor in my misbehavior. My parents quickly shipped me off to a military school where some say that my literature of choice was Playboy Magazine. I played baseball and was a band leader. I even marched down Fifth Avenue one time. I became a fierce competitor whose life goal was to be rich, rich, and richer. Like my father, I focused on my wealth and success.
Via several business endeavors, I did become very wealthy. I learned to play the money and legal games in countless ways to accure great wealth. I married and divorced several women and had a number of children. My children worked with me. I thought of myself as the smartest person alive and held to a few tenets such as never admit a mistake, ricochet your insult onto those who insulted you in the first place, if you lie enough--people will believe you, and always speak highly of yourself. I never waver from those beliefs.
So where did all this take me--it took me to a place of obsession. I put the win before my oath of office, service to the American people, the welfare of our government, and even the lives and livelihoods of the American people. It was about me, me, me and no one else. That obsession was like a snowball rolling down the hill, it got bigger, dirtier, and more dangerous as I continuously spewed propaganda, lies, and contempt to prop up my own wealth, power, privilege, and pleasure. No one mattered to me--frankly, I didn't care if people lived or died. It was all about me, and then that obsession led me and my elite followers to incite a deadly insurrection at The Capitol. We spent lots of time spreading lies about the election online and in real time. Our followers recruited extremists to join our movement and paid for communication and transportation. We riled them up at the Elipse, got them really angry, and told them to fight. We said we'd go with them, but instead we deceived them and slipped into the safety of the White House to watch the violence for hours. Finally, after Joe Biden called me to speak, I spoke, but still let the insurgents know that I loved them. At last, I was the military leader I always dreamed of being--the guy in charge who leads his troops into a bloody battle. To protect myself, I put a speech online decrying the angry insurgents' behavior and calling for them to be prosecuted. Again, I didn't care about anyone, but myself.
I turned against my own country. I led to the death and injury of American citizens including my own followers. I created chaos and destruction in our nation's Capitol, and I terrorized and threatened all members of Congress, those that work in the Capitol, and Americans everywhere watching on television. I abdicated my oath of office, abused my power and harmed my country and its people--that is why I am resigning. I take full responsibility for my actions and will suffer the legal consequences of my decisions and acts.
I apoligize to the American people and my young son and grandchildren. My adult children and wife were complicit with my actions as were many of my Republican cabinet members, friends, administration, and members of Congress. They too should be held accountable for the Capitol death and destruction and any other corrupt acts that occurred during my Presidency.
My one hope is that NO ONE will follow my footsteps--and that everyone listening to this speech will support a peaceful transfer of power, President Joe Biden and his administrative team, the Constitution of the United States, and a better America going forward. I erred and I am ready to pay the price.
