Last year I read a great article from Harvard Business School about recognizing the small wins. That focus has stayed with me. Too often we're focused on the big goals and big wins rather than the daily small wins that create better living. Since reading that article, I've thought a lot about the daily small wins. Today as I think about the pandemic overall, I'm thinking about the small wins--wins that have bettered our lives at home and in the community--what's worked.
Family
- Better, healthier meal preparation with great ingredients, recipes, skill and cooking tools
- Some great outdoor adventures--more hikes and outdoor picnics/celebrations
- Creative gatherings--the best was renting a boat for a family celebration
- ZOOM get-togethers. While I don't love ZOOM, the vehicle did give us a chance to get together as a family regularly.
- More time together with the intimate family members I live with and visit often.
Health
- online health visits
- less exposure to viruses/illness of all kinds
- more outdoor activity
- healthy meals
- less stressful routines with regard to traffic, stressful work schedules, numbers of people I have to interface with on a daily basis.
Work
- Greater time to focus, research, read
Hobbies/Interests
- More time to create, learn, discover, participate in hobbies and interests
In general, the plus of the pandemic has been more time and the minus has been less people and group activities of any kind.
Hopefully there are only a few more months of this ahead, and as we persist, we'll continue to focus on the wins. It's a positive perspective for this time. Onward.
