What is power?
Your power is the energy, skill, talents, perspectives, and choices you have. Your power is the way you use what you have to influence people, places, and events.
How do you deal with your power?Often, we may not consider the power we have. And to ignore, our power or capacity, is to leave us vulnerable to misusing our power.
As we've seen on the national stage recently, many have misused and abused their power which has resulted in loss of lives, livelihoods, dollars, good work, and potential.
All of us should consider the power we have, and to do this, we might want to have that conversation with others as it is often difficult to ascertain your own powers. You might ask, friends and colleagues, What power do I have? How do you see me using my power? How can I use my power in better ways?
As an educator who worked with a dynamic team, we often relied on each other to utilize our unique powers and capacity to make the collective team strong. This was powerful and resulted in many positive teaching/learning experiences and outcomes. In a family, we often do the same, but sometimes any one of us might misuse our power to the dismay to others.
Getting in touch with your power is one way to think deeply about who you and are and whom you might be for yourself and others going forward. To misuse and abuse your power is to halt that potential in serious and possibly dangerous ways.
I'm looking forward to this quest in the days ahead particularly at a time when too many are not using their power well.
