I like a good problem. I enjoy working with others to figure out how to solve a good problem, and I like solving a problem while it's small rather than letting it fester and get big, big, big. My greatest challenge with solving problems is choosing which problems to focus on--everywhere I look I see promise and potential, and that promise and potential lies in the problems waiting to be solved.
So as I look out to the many problems and the great potential that exists, I'm thinking about which problems I'll invest in. These are problems that interest me.
- The spread of dangerous propaganda--how do we protect free speech while getting rid of dangerous lies and propaganda?
- The need for a fair wage--I want every worker to earn a fair wage. Working people should not have to live in poverty.
- The need for just working conditions. At too many jobs, workers are face unjust work conditions.
- Support for strong communities--if communities are strong, safe, and positive, then the people will be the same. What do communities need to be stronger, better?
- Eradication of white supremacy, racism, and inequity. This effort is part of every problem listed above, so perhaps it is the first lens and action to be used to solve any problem in the United States.
- Uplifting women's voices, rights, and opportunity throughout the country. I believe we still live with a wealthy white male perspective as a mainstay in the United States, and we have to build a more inclusive, equitable perspective and action. Joe Biden's cabinet is much more diverse than Trump's, this will help our national policies to become more inclusive.
- We have to protect our beautiful lands and natural resources--this is critical, and a huge problem to solve.
- I love the field of education, and want to see us build strong, positive schools too.
There are many more problems to solve in the United States, but the problems listed above are the ones that I am drawn too, and will likely get involved in. I will begin by educating myself via a number of good books waiting for me to read. Onward.
