Why it is important to impeach, prosecute, and convict President Trump, Commander-in-Chief for insurrection
President Trump clearly abused his power in ways that led to obstruction of justice, costly vandalism, and the terror, injury, and death of American citizens. This may be the most vile domestic terrorist event during his term as President of the United States, and to think that he was a President that warned us time and again about the terrorism poor immigrants might create, and it was he, himself, the President of the United States that created a deadly insurgence--an unthinkable domestic terrorist event that terrorized people in The Capitol and all over the United States as we watched the violence--a terrorist event that resulted in expensive vandalism, dangerous looting, costly injury of many, and the death of American citizens.
We cannot let President Trump get away with this domestic terrorism and insurgence--we must hold Trump and his terrorizing teammates accountable in multiple ways. How can we do this?
First, Trump is a clear and present danger and must be impeached immediately. Honestly, I think he should be convicted right now as a domestic terrorist too and placed in jail without bail. He is a danger to people throughout the country still as his team continues to incite violence and death threats.
Why is he guilty?
Trump set the stage for violence with lies and propaganda
Trump and his team spread angry propaganda and lies about the election, and as they spread those lies, they riled up their base in ways that created a will for violence and insurrection. Trump did use legal channels to contest the election, and over 50 lawsuits proved that the election was fair and just. Rather than conceding and working for a peaceful transfer of power, Trump chose to spread propaganda and lies about the election that served to anger and incite his base--he set the stage for the insurgence with these lies and propaganda. He spread the propaganda in countless ways via real-time rallies and online social media channels.
Trump team financially supported the insurrection
Many Republican groups and supporters leant financial support and staffing to preparing the insurrection stage. Specifically some Republican groups advertised the January 6th event on their social media channels. Also sympathizers financially supported rallies where Trump set the stage for the revolt via theater, lies, and propaganda. And questions remain about further financial support including who paid for terrorists' air fare--the fact that many were flying on same flights leads one to believe that a single person/group obtained and paid for the tickets. Who paid for other transportation sources and accommodations for the insurgents? Also people had to financially support the insurgence weapons, props, and military gear? There needs to be greater investigation about who financially supported the insurgence in all ways.
Trump incited and deceived his angry followers, then watched with inaction to stop the deadly violence
Using well rehearsed language of violence, war, and battle, Trump gave an hour-plus speech at the Elipse to incite the violence. His speech used lots of propaganda to praise the angry mob and to make them angrier as he repeatedly demeaned democrats, the media, and the election. He continually praised himself and his efforts to take care of these people, and he threatened that they would no longer have a country if they did not fight. He acted as both leader and comrade as he worked up their fury--he stopped when they began to chant angry words and further infuriate each other, and he told them he would walk to the Capitol with them. Similar to any dictator like Hitler, once Trump worked up the crowd to an angry, violent fury, he escaped to the safety of the White House to watch the violence and likely enjoy the obstruction, injustice, vandalism, violence, injury, and death he caused. As he watchd, he clearly had the opportunity to stop the violence, but instead, for hours he watched without any action to prevent the carnage. It was only after Biden implored him to speak out to stop the carnage that he did give a half-hearted halt with words that included love for the perpetrators.
Trump continues to incite and likely is involved in the death threats those that decry his acts have received
Now, Trump continues to incite his base. A base that should be held accountable if they continue to believe and support Trump's lies and propaganda. Anyone that continues to stand by Trump, clearly has not done their homework to realize that he is inciting insurrection and letting his vulnerable and angry base do his dirty work while he profits from their violence and insurrection.
The Trump team also has been threatening the lives of lawmakers and others who have decried Trump's insurgence and domestic terrorism. Like mob bosses, his team threatens and creates fear which makes some step down from rightful imprisonment, impeachment, and prosecution.
Every American has to contact their congressional leaders and ask them to act for the safety of our country and its people
Clearly, once Biden is President, he must appoint a commission to investigate all aspects of the insurrection so that we do not experience this again anytime soon.
In the meantime, every American has the responsibility to contact their congressional leaders and ask them to do the following:
1. Impeach President Trump and hold him accountable for the deadly insurrection
2. Support a commission to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the insurrection and hold those responsible, accountable. The commission should also make recommendations as to how to prevent such violence and insurrection in the future.
3. Work for a peaceful transfer of power with more law enforcement and protections--clearly some in law enforcement were complicit with Trump's insurrection, so this peaceful transfer of power requires that honest, reliable people are in charge--all plans have to be reviewed with regard to safety.
4. Follow-up with the threats that are occurring on social media now about future violence and insurgence. Trump has opened up the doors for violence throughout the country, and all citizens should be asked to report any words or acts that point to planned violent acts. Someone has to take the leadership here because typically the White House would lead this kind of effort, but right now we are operating with only 2/3 of the national government as the White House has been silent in the face of the insurgence--they have not spoken and have not offered any leadership simply because they created this dangerous insurrection.
Work for betterment going forward
The past four years have been years of working against Trump terror and propaganda day in and day out. With the Biden administration on the horizon, it's will be time to invest in the good work possible--we'll have to clean up the mess that Trump created via his ineptitude, sloth, self-serving/greedy acts, propaganda, violence, cronyism, and nepotism, and then we can move forward.
