We all have different goals in life--we all have somewhat different directions. Sometimes we swim upstream with a large supportive group, and sometimes we are moving with less people to achieve an important goal that is not as widely shared, but that is truly a right direction for us in life.
As a young mom and teacher, I was moving along with a big crowd for a long time--while not always easy, I was surrounded by people in the same boat moving in the same direction. This camaraderie was empowering, but now, my direction is more singular--it's a temporary direction, a strengthening time with clear objectives in a smaller sphere. A direction just as important as my goals and directions of the past, goals and directions shared by many.
When your goals and directions are more singular, you continually have to coach yourself forward--you have to reach down deep inside to get the energy you need to do what you know is right and good at this time. You also have to seek out others online and in real time who share your direction, as good camaraderie always strengthens what you can do.
I love my new direction even though it has some hefty challenges. I am happy to be in this place, yet I wish there were more public support for the path I'm traveling. The fact that this path is somewhat unsupported demonstrates to me that there's definitely room for positive change in society, change that will strengthen our abilities to live in humane, equitable, and positive ways. From my vantage point now, I'm noticing how society now too often bends towards corporate gain rather than what is right and good for people's lives. I hope we can make change with this in the years ahead.
Right now, however, it's time to focus on my singular goals which will result in greater ability to contribute late on. Onward.
