Dear Americans everywhere including Senators of the United States Congress,
I believe the impeachment trial is critical to our country's future opportunity and prosperity. I believe that the evidence clearly proves Donald Trump, while President of the United States, incited a deadly insurrection that was an abuse of power. This insurrection was and still is a grave danger to our country for the following reasons:
- The insurrection obstructed the certification of a proven free and fair electoral win for Joe Biden.
- The insurrection threatened the lives of second in command, Vice President at the time Mike Pence, and third in command, Speaker Pelosi.
- The insurrection murdered, injured, and terrorized American lawmakers, police, Capitol staff, and everyone who watched the insurrection that day. I watched it, I know.
- The insurrection cost the taxpayers lots and lots of senseless dollars and time--dollars and time that could be used to truly support good lives all across our country.
- The insurrection caused many families great pain and suffering as they bury the dead, care for the injured, pay huge lawyer fees for the accused, incur extra expenses due to overtime or parents deployed in National Guard, and even some have to visit their loved ones who will be or have been imprisoned for following Trump's orders.
It is right for our country's future to convict Trump of abuse of power and infidelity to his Presidential Oath of Office by inciting a deadly insurrection during his final days in office.
In the days ahead, please contact your senators and tell them to do the right thing to show fidelity to their Oaths of Office to preserve, protect, and defend the United States Consitution, and to work for our country's good future as well.
- Tell them to show up, many senators didn't bother to be there to hear the evidence.
- Tell them to take the trial seriously and act with respect and dignity--no mocking, no misbehavior, and not unduly drawing attention to yourself. Tell them to follow the rules.
- Question any unethical behavior you see or hear about.
- Share any information you have that may impact the trial--it is likely that there are Americans out there that heard or saw information that will be helpful in this trial.
- Read and study the United States Constitution, the Presidential Oath of Office, and the evidence presented.
- Encourage them to take the time they need for the trial, but to realistically schedule it for a few hours each day in the early morning so people who work can watch it and so there's time to attend to other important work for the nation.
Make sure your senators are safe too. We know that when people go against Trump and his cronies, they often receive death threats. This is mob-like behavior, and we must work against it in every way possible. If you hear of threats like this, contact the FBI, other law enforcement, and the ACLU. Tell people about the threats, publicize the threats, and those that spread them with photos, screenshots, and recordings. The more public the threats are, the less dangerous they will be. Raffensburger was courageous as he acted against the threats he received when Trump tried to illegally manipuate the vote.
Your voices matter. Every time a senator is contacted by an American, they take note. The map below shows the states where one or two senators at this time have said they will not vote to convict Trump--reach out to those senators and tell them to be faithful to their Oath of Office and do the right thing and convict Trump. This New York Times article tells you which senators are undecided, reach out to those senators too, and if your senators are willing to convict trump, reach out to them as well and cheer them on--this is not easy. No one wanted an impeachment, everyone wanted to get on with the new Biden administration, but the future of our good country depends on this trial--Trump must be convicted. Please do your part.
Sincerely,
Maureen Devlin
