These senators make $174,000 a year. The average salary of Americans is $31,000
There was a deadly insurrection at the United States Capitol. Evidence shows that Donald Trump, while President of the United States, staged and incited this insurrection, an insurrection that killed, injured, threatened and terrorized many, vandalized and looted the Capitol and nearby public spaces, obstructed the certification of a free and fair election, and led to many follow-up threats and the need for extensive extra security costing the country $500,000,000, or 1/2 billion dollars. Because of this, Donald Trump was impeached, and the House Managers showed that Constitutional scholars overwhelmingly believe it is constitutional to impeach a former President who, in his final days, abused his power and was unfaithful to his Oath of Office.
The House Managers clearly worked extensively to prepare and deliver a well-organized, fact-filled, clear multimedia case of Trump's high crimes and misdemeanors. The Senators are the jury--it is their job as jurists to listen to the evidence and vote to convict or aquit Trump based on the evidence, yet the senators in the picture above did not attend the trial. How can they claim fidelity to their Oaths of Office to preserve, protect, and defend the United States Constitution if they don't even show up to listen and then make an informed choice about the impeachment conviction.
This leads me to many questions:
- Do these Senators deserve their pay if they are not going to do their jobs?
- How can these senators vote if they did not attend the trial and listen to the evidence?
- Are these senators faithful to their Oath of Office to preserve, protect, and defend the United States Constitution if they didn't show up to listen to the evidence?
What do you think?
