When money and items are given away, people don't always treat that money or those items with respect, but when money and items are the object of choice, that leads to greater respect and attention.
With regard to the upcoming stimulus benefits, I believe that eligible Americans should have the choice to accept or deny these benefits with a letter like this:
A letter like this will result in a better stimulus benefit process for many reasons:
- Many representatives and senators did not or will not vote for the stimulus benefits because they don't think their constituents need or want the help. If constituents have the choice, the data from that choice will show the truth of the matter with accurate numbers of who chose the benefits and who did not.
- The fact that constituents will receive a card and have to say yes or no to the benefits will give them time to think about the benefits they will receive and how they might use the money.
- The choice card includes information about how and why they are receiving benefits and who the benefits are coming from. During Trump's time, he signed the checks as if he were bankrolling the benefit package when, in reality, it is the American taxpayer that is paying for these benefits
- This process could actually save money because some Americans may decide not to take the benefits for all kinds of reasons.
- It may be a more accurate process since Americans taking the benefits can add their most up-to-date contact information and banking/payment choices which may expedite the payments in positive ways.
I am not eligible for the benefits. I say this upfront as this has nothing to do with my circumstances, but I am a big fan of the benefits because when people in my community have what they need, the entire community benefits. Plus, I have family members who need the benefits and this will be very helpful to them.
The rich in America have made a lot of money in the past four years while most other Americans have suffered in countless ways due to the disastrous, self-serving, hateful Trump years. I am so proud of the Representatives who voted for this package and the Senators who will support the package too. This is promising for our entire country, but I do hope we instill a better process with regard to the stimulus checks--a process that will give Americans the knowledge to understand why they are receiving the money, and the choice to accept it or not.
