Time

I went cross country skiing with friends. We meandered the icy trails conversing about multiple topics. It was my first time on cross country skiis in 15 years so I fell a lot, but I got up and kept going enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. As we talked, the topic of time came up in relation to caring for our elderly parents. One friend said, you have to rethink time expectations because with our older parents time is much slower. Nothing happens that quickly.

I've been noticing that as I watch a loved one in rehab--she's making progress, but it's not as quick as you'd hope for, and with pandemic limitations, our time for visits is slowed down too meaning we have to wait days to visit. At least we can visit soon--that would not have been possible a few months ago.

Life in some places and at some points of life moves very quickly, perhaps too quickly, and life at other times move slowly. Acknowledging the time factor of the place that you're in is important--once you calibrate your expectations and efforts to match the time at play, you actually are more successful with the work you hope to do.

I'll think more about time in the days to come, and how my attitude towards time can make a difference with respct to meeting the expectations I have and the goals I've set. Onward.
