I thought about the COVID-19 milestones as we met with a couple of vaccine milestones yesterday. What have been your COVD-19 milestones and what will be those milestones going ahead.
Here are my milestones:
- Acknowledging the pandemic threat, encouraging school leaders to close school in March
- The move to virtual school--crafting a successful online school routine, program with colleagues
- Helping students make the most of Pandemic-style school, looking for ways to invigorate great learning
- Assessing student gains, revising the pandemic-style school as needed with colleagues, families and students
- Revising family/school celebrations, good times, connections with ZOOM, outdoor events, mask wearing, hand washing, and other pandemic precautions
- Learning a lot about the Pandemic
- Listening carefully and responding to school systems' decisions about pandemic-style school in the fall.
- Making a decision to retire given the facts at hand about return-to-school plans and COVID-19 threats.
- Retirement paperwork
- Safe pandemic get togethers with loved ones outdoors, wearing masks, and taking precautions seriously
- Remote college semester begins for my son.
- Working in ways that I can to remove elected leaders who do not take the pandemic seriously or work for the safety, welfare, and good living of the American people.
- Greater focus on my parents' care and needs during a pandemic
- Revising holiday celebrations that take pandemic precautions seriously
- Preparing my home for post-pandemic living and results
- Getting my parents' vaccine appointments
- Getting everyone else vaccine appointments as available
- Planning late-pandemic events and still taking precautions seriously
It's interesting to make a list of your COVID-19 milestones. That list tells the story about how you responded to such a challenging year and how you will continue to respond in ways that keep you safe, healthy and positive. I wish you well.
