Your work today matters for the future

The work you do today matters for the future. As I watched the SuperBowl coverage about the two quarterbacks, it was clear that while Patrick Mahomes' team didn't win, everyone knows that he likely has lots of great football days and wins ahead. How he plays and how he loses now matters for his future--people are watching.

No matter where you work and what you do, people are always watching and noticing. And if you are committed to good work, have a great attitude, and present yourself with a positive demeanor, respect, and manners, no matter the circumstances, it's likely that there will be some great opportunities ahead for you.

As one colleague said, the people you work for and with today are the same people who will write your recommendations for a new job or opportunity later on. That's important to consider with every decision you make.

So, rather than think of your performance as performance for your job today alone, think of your performance as the work that supports your overall life--your success today and your success into the future. That matters.
