Yesterday I took a long walk with family members on an urban bike trail. The trail was bordered by countless successful businesses who apparantly were disregarding the trail in every way. It was disgusting to see the pollution and lack of care shown to the bike trail. That needs to change. I had the same feeling when I visited a major United States city. As I wove my way around beautiful corporate structures, there was pollution and destitution every where in the streets and allies. I wondered why those evidently rich and successful corporations were not doing more to improve the lives and environment that surrounded their buildings.
In the United States, I believe that businesses should have more responsibility for the people and environment that surround their places of business. For example, those businesses that border the bike trail, should be responsible for making their section of the trail safe and inviting. They might event add good signage that educates people about the history and environment and add benches so people can take a rest of stop for a bite to eat. And in big cities, those corporations should be responsible for eliminating poverty, hunger, destitution, and pollution in the cities where they profit so much.
We need to elevate the level of responsibility that corporations have in the United States for the welfare and betterment of the people and environments they rely on. That's one way to improve the world we live in.
