Sometimes when we are stuck, we forget to consider our options.
I remember once when a friend was complaining about money. I said to her, Why don't you sell your second home. That question reframed her outlook. I don't think she had considered her good fortune or the fact that she did have options. Simply broadening her outlook and seeing her options, helped her to change her mindset and make some new decisions. I rarely to never heard her complain about money again.
Similarly, a loved one who is caring for an ill family member sometimes gets discouraged. That's when I remind him of his options--he can change the situation. He has options. Though the situation is not easy and the options not ideal, just to know he has options gives him control with the knowledge that he is choosing this option and not the others right now.
Recently I considered the options of staying in the home where I live versus moving. I did a lot of research. I outlined my options, and after that work, I realized that my current home has a lot more to offer than I was realizing. For now, I'm not moving, I'm staying put, and by considering my options, I'm also enjoying my home more recognizing the merits it has, merits I wasn't paying as much attention to before.
As I connect with my own children, I always want to remind them of their options. It's important that people don't feel stuck and that they know that one to free themselves is to make the time to consider your options. Onward.
