I noted life priorities today in a tweet:
Then Todd Block responded:
I haven't thought a lot about consumer vs maker culture, but I have thought about affordable, Earth-friendly living, and the two topics clearly intersect.
Lately, with time, I've been able to create a lot more solutions to problems rather than buy those solutions. I've been able to make rather than simply buy someone else's solution. This has been true in the following ways:
- cooking more and better
- making gifts rather than buying gifts
- repurposing household items rather than buy solutions
- learning from experts, then using that expertise to solve problems
- composting--making my own good soil
- establishing a creativity studio in my home
- choosing media with greater discernment
- gardening
- focus on exepriences rather than things for celebrations, gifts. For example - hosting a picnic for a birthday rather than an expensive dinner at a restaurant
I want to think more about what the topic of consumer vs maker culture means, and how I can best reflect that in my life. Bloch's tweet, in part, is moving me in this positive direction.
Thanks Todd Block.
