The focus on Harry and Meghan first struck me as overkill of celebrity news. In a world where there is so much good to do, I wondered why so many were spending so much time talking about this privileged, celebrity couple. While I wish them well, I wondered why they were grabbing the headlines from so many more issues.
Since some of the many who reporting on this story are people I admire, I reserved judgement for the most part and waited to hear a bit of the interview and observe the multiple reactions. Now, I understand better why this is important news. From my standpoint, what's most important here is the need for those with power to use their power with respect, inclusion, and good values. It seems that many related to this story acted in racist, uncaring, unkind, and hurtful ways, and that kind of behavior does no one any good and provides a dangerous and destructive model from a place of great wealth and power.
So by speaking up Harry and Meghan essentially educated the world more about the need to be more inclusive, caring, responsive, and mindful of the needs, rights, and care people require to thrive. Onward.
