Has anyone ever slaughtered your character. When that happens someone attacks you for the very essence of who you are and what you value. It's a painful experience.
Now there's always a bit of truth in any critique, but a slaughter is an all-out assault, a violent affront, a painful rebuke of all that you value and all that you are.
What those slayers don't realize is that much of who you are and what you do is intentional--a choice made for multiple good reasons. Some of us even choose some paths that we know are distasteful to others because down deep we know it is right for us and others today and into our future.
Like anyone, I don't connect with all the ways people present, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to attack them for being who they are. Instead I recognize that is who they are and what they choose to do. I will speak up if I believe a person is a danger to themselves or another, but otherwise, I believe people should live the lives they choose with the people they choose to connect with.
Also, with my own actions, I don't necessarily act to appeal to others, but instead I mostly act to stay true to who I am and what I believe in. I would never change my actions simply to appeal to others, but I might change my actions is I felt I could do better by others.
As for those who treat me with disrespect and contempt, I will distance myself from them. Obviously there's not a connection there. Onward.
