We can all find ways to bridge the divides that exist in society, and I believe that a friendly hello and conversation is one way to reach for stronger, better communities.
Yesterday, while waiting for sandwiches at a lunch spot, I noticed a man looking a little uncomfortable in the shop. I noticed that he had a teamster sweatshirt on which gave me the chance to say, "My great grandfather was a teamster at the turn of the century." That opened up a friendly dialogue about teamsters, unions, and the day at hand. After our short, friendly talk, we picked up our sandwiches and went our ways.
The more we can be friendly to one another by smiling, saying hello, and strking up small conversations, the more we can break down the walls that stand between us and see each other as the good humans we are. Onward.
