How can we update our home in ways that welcome home our adult children? As I do with all creative endeavors, I think big to start, then work backwards with regard to what is doable and affordable.
Bedrooms
We're a bit short on bedrooms when it comes to our visiting adult children and their loved ones. They typically don't visit all at the same time, but as their connections grow, we have to think about having more space. What will we do?
If we move, I want to live in a small home with rental properties nearby. That way if our children visit all at once, we can hopefully rent them spaces to sleep nearby. If we stay here, I'd love to make more spaces for people to sleep over. I have to think about how I might do that.
Eating
I love the way a person I know built a giant eating area with a big table. I want a space like that, a space where the whole family can sit down together to share a meal. If we are to do that in this house, it will take some updating.
Playing games, engaging in games, and having fun
I also want spaces indoors and outdoors where we can play together and enjoy conversation. To make this happen here means improving the spaces we have, and if we move, it means making sure these spaces exist.
Like most parents of older children, we want to create a space where our family enjoys coming together and being with one another. I'll work on creating those spaces in the days to come.
