I don't like the word misogyny because it's a tough word to say and wrap your brain around. Yet, in my later years, it has become clear that I've suffered from this condition my entire life and it doesn't feel good.
I can think of countless examples of misogyny in my experience of life--experiences which held me back, disdained me, verbally abused me, belittled me, and oppressed me. Misogyny is truly a violence that hurts and harms women again and again.
With this in mind, I will spend my days ahead working against this contempt and prejudice in every way I can. Ways that I'll do that include the following:
- Politely oppose and not accept any language or action that belittles me as a woman.
- Standing up for other women so that they are treated fairly and respectfully.
- Working for positive opportunities for women.
- Reading more articles about how this subtly shows its face in society, and working against it by updating my own actions and speak, and not supporting others who forward this behavior.
Like a bad virus, misogyny spreads and destroys people in its wake. I want to work against this as I know it is good for me and good for everyone else too. Onward.
