The 10-photo challenge

People today mostly have a large collection of photos online and offline, and once those people pass, their lives will be mostly remembered in what would equal about 10 photos. With that in mind, if you had to choose 10 photos to represent your life, what 10 photos would you choose and why would you choose those?

Why is this a good challenge to complete every few years?

First, this challenge helps you to know yourself and know what is important to you--by choosing 10 photos out of hundreds and maybe thousands of photos tells you who and what means the most to you.

Next, this is a way to help you share yourself with others. For example, when you share your 10 photos, you are essentially saying to people, this is who I am and this is what matters to me. When people know you well or when you know others well, the relationship gets stronger and your support for one another becomes more personalized and helpful.

And, by choosing your 10 photos, you leave your legacy of who you are and what mattered to you. As I engage in my family history project, I wish I had legacies of 10 photos from every family member--that would help me to better cull the trends of good living rather than a lot of guessing. That would also help me to see how family values and choices were passed down through the generations.

Recently, as I went through one of my son's photo/memory boxes, I was grateful to the many educators that made the time to personalize assignments in ways that helped my son know who he was and what was important to him. As I read stories he wrote of his early life and saw art work depicting what he loved and who he was, I gained a deeper appreciation and knowledge of my son. I know that the educators' who invested in personalizing his education, helped to make him a more confident, skilled, and able person for the world. I am grateful for this.

I've yet to complete the 10-photo challenge, but I hope to do it soon. I need a day with the right energy to do that. In the meantime, I think this is a good challenge to consider for your own life and the lives of those you love. It is a good challenge to know yourself and know others deeply too. Onward.
