The Little Garden that Could - second iteration

Last year when the  COVD-19 pandemic hit, I started the Little Garden that Could which was a small plot of land where I planted our favorite vegetables and lots of marigolds to keep the bunnies away. Many of my students followed my lead and planted their own backyard gardens. It was a positive response to the pandemic we were facing.

Today, thanks to good weather, I planted the second Little Garden That Could. I doubled the size from last year, tilled the soil and added the fencing. Inside I planted many seeds by my sunny living room window. Hopefully, like last year, this garden will reap many wonderful, nutritious vegetables that support heatlthy living and healthy eating all summer.

The challenge with staRting a garden is similar to any project. You can see the end point, and that motivates you, but there are many challenges along the way.

There's lots to do to make the vision come true including the following steps:

  • water the indoor seedlings regularly, plant outside when the threat of frost is over
  • redo the compost heap--the soil is great, but it is hard to get to. This needs some work.
  • leave plants outside when the weather is good, but bring them inside when there's fear of a frost.
  • design the garden using the seed packet information as a guide.
  • buy a few pre-started plants at the local, reputable farms stand
Thanks to the beautiful and unexpected weather today, the Little Garden that Could found its start. It will be interesting to see where this goes in the days, weeks, months ahead. Onward.
